   THE GPS SIGNAL IN SKYDIVING

Your Gps device needs to point to the sky to receive its signal from satellites!

Gps Garmin Foretrex 201 logged to satelites.
Log your Gps to satellites before boarding and keep the signal during climbing. In the airplane keep your GPS in vision to the sky through the windows. If your gps device is not logged before exit, your score can't be calculated.

  • In airplanes with high wings, the GPS signal can be poor when seated right under the wing. In Pilatus Porters, the co-pilot seat and the spoter seat are the best places to keep your gps receiver logged to satellites. In Cessna Caravans, the co-pilot seat, the seats right behind the cockpit and the places by the cargo door are the best spot to keep your GPS in vision to the sky. In the Twin Otters the seats right behind the cockpit and the places by the cargo door are the best to maintain your GPS logged.
  • In airplanes with low wings, as Beechcrafts, the GPS signal is consistent in pretty much every slot.
  • In tail gate aircrafts as Casa 212 or Skyvans, the GPS signal can be difficult to acquire without a Gps repeater system.
Keep your GPS recorder orientated to satellites while flying. Turn off your GPS after each landing.
